Another poser

Hi again,imageimage

Now this is weird. I recently sited a peanut butter feeder well off the ground next to Squirrel proof feeders. The peanut butter cartridge is screwed  into its housing, tightly. This morning I was watching the various birds lining up for their seed & others queuing up for the peanut butter. I then went into town for a while, when I came back, the cartridge was no longer in its holder?? & nowhere on the deck, amongst the shrubbery, nor rolled down the garden paths. It simply is no longer in the garden. I am totally baffled. To remove an empty & reload a new cartridge, the housing has to be held in one hand whilst screwing the cartridge. Its impossible to remove without holding the housing. Stumped image

They are clever at working out how to get at feeders, but unscrewing a container that's impossible for me using one hand,  I think not.

2 squirrels? Have any of your neighbours got a peanut butter fetish?

Here in Llandudno we have herring gulls that can steal your ice-cream out of the cornet in mid-swoop.

That's happened to us in Cornwall too Josusa ... It's not possible to buy two cornets and carry one to your partner !!!

I've seen plenty of squirrel's antics both in my own garden & on videos & yes, they are very enterprising & entertaining. In the above link though, the jar is obviously anchored down, so our hero can get a purchase on the lid. To safeguard my feeder now, I've inserted a screw through a hole I've drilled through the cartridge & the holder. So to be fair, I've left the phillips driver nearby!!

Well it's only right to give them a sporting chance, after all image.

More seriously have you considered setting up a web cam to see if you can catch anyone taking a keen interest in it?

I've more than once had that idea. But I'm still debating whether to install a dash-cam in my car, which would take priority. But as all my feeders are now squirrel proof image  I'll concentrate on a dash-cam.

Still had no suggestions as regards my previous forum thread ie snow prints. My first thought would be a pogostick balancing fox!

Are you doubting my mechanical skills, how very dare you? No it was screwed on fine, besides, there's no trace of it in the garden, let alone the immediate area.

As an after thought, had the pesky squirrel managed to gain access to the feeder, why not just sit there & have a good feed as they used to do before I outwitted 'em?
