I'd assumed that Somerset Gardener had a mind of his or her own and was able to speak for him or herself ... it seems I was right about that at least image

Thanks for your comments Somerset Gardener ... much appreciated image  It would be great if you revisited here from time to time and let us see how your garden progresses image

FWIW, I’m in the wait and see and take it slowly camp.  An old neglected garden will have some treasures.

A bit harsh on those trying to be helpful, Englishrose, IMO.

Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

That was Englishrose's first comment on the forum, image

Well, if he or she ever posts a query  on here I'll remember to answer the question, the whole question and nothing but the question image

  • I know a fair few one man band gardeners and every one of them would leap at the chance not to be doing agency work this time of the year, going rate is about £15 an hour plus skip hire.  When you hire a large firm what you are paying for is heavy machinery and speed. If you call around the local gardeners you could probabky halve that quote at least.

  • It was indeed my first comment on this particular forum, Mr Cutlet, although I'm not sure what significance that has?  There are other forums....

Anyway, it's very sweet that nutcutlet and Dovefromabove seem to work as a double act.

As someone else has noted, somersetgardener, like all of us presumably, has a mind of his/her own.  I was merely referring the thread back to the original question.

    What japes!

English Rose, if you click on the name of any forum member the word 'ignore' appears. Try it, you need never see the poster again.

    So goodbye image

OP... 1800 isn't extortionate but you could get a slightly lower quote. I agree with the etchasketch reset button in your case. Getting a gardener in to mess around for weeks on end will just frustrate you.

What's the quote breakdown? How much for waste away?
