Onion white rot.

Can anyone suggest a cure or deterrent for onion white rot? Are there any insectisides on the market?  I have practiced crop rotation over many years but sadly I think I have it in all my raised beds now.

It's not an insect so no insecticides will work.  It's a fungus and according to the RHS there is no chemical treatment available.  They also state that it can longer in the soil for at least eight years so no member of the onion family should be grown in the area.  Not good news!

  • Thanks for your reply MuddyFork. I should have said fumigant and not insecticide.  Yes it does seem like I have a major problem.  I wonder why commercial growers seem to be immune To the disease and also carrot root fly. Or do they have access to some product Not available to us gardeners
