Can you help me identifying this tree

image

I got the attached tree as a gift in New Year. It is approximately 50cm tall, healthy in the pot. I would like to plant it to my garden but first I want to check if it is a tree that will not grow tremendously and block all the light since it will be impossible to move around once planted.

can you help identifying the species

thanks

Looks to me like a blue form of abies, maybe koreana.  Have a look at the images on this website to compare with yours http://www.coniferkingdom.com/blue/ and then google the variety for cultivation information of the one you think is right.  That should tell you its eventual size.  I suspect, if left alone, it'll be one that gets to 12m high with a spread of 8m at the base but over a lifetime, not in the next 10 years.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

I think it looks more like Picea pungens 'Glauca' ; plant in a wet position if possible as they hate dryness .

You'll find over time the lower branches will turn brown and lose their needles , this is quite normal . These can be removed as and when .

Not a particularly fast grower ; a garden I 'do' has one @ around 30' tall , but it's been in around 35-40 years .

  • Agree with Obelixx.

Most likely Glauca group, down to it's bluish-grey colour. Check out https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/62/i-Abies-procera-i-(Glauca-Group)-Glauca-Prostrata/Details

    Hope this helps
