Overlooked Garden Ideas

  • Wow!!

Thanks for the suggestions all! Being the impatient type I’m considering finding someone local to source and plant some mature shrubs etc, depending on cost. We’re not planning on staying here forever so dont want to spend the earth but also want a good 3-5 years of enjoying the garden so I don’t mind spending a bit to get a good head start.

  • Stunning garden ,Madpenguin! I could stare at your pics for ages.

Thank you for the compliments! image

Because I live with it every day I don't always notice how much the garden has changed.

When working on it I tend to only see what needs doing next, fresh eyes see the whole picture.

So many things went in as cuttings and small plants it is only when I look back I can see how much it has all grown and changed over the years.

I quite often read that plants and gardens take 10 or so years to mature and it seems an absolute age but time passes very quickly really and before you know it another year is upon you.image

    Madpenguin your garden is beautiful!

I think we probably worry a bit too much about privacy.  My neighbours can see into my garden if they look out of their upstairs windows, but what are they going to see?  Just me pottering, watering plants, weeding, filling the bird feeders etc.  Maybe on a nice day family and friends sitting round with a drink having a natter.  Its nothing very exciting or interesting!  I don't sunbathe topless or have any hot tub parties!

I think maybe a small tree / large shrub in the corner that will break the fence line and screen a little bit of the view would help; something like Amelanchier 'Obelisk'. I would also think about painting the fence and posts in one cohesive and neutral colour.

My neighbours next door have BBQ's regularly and I never see anyone, yet there must be 20 people there.I can hear the chat and smell the cooking which is fine, just people enjoying themselves.
