Attaching guttering to metal greenhouse

Hi all,

I have recently inherited a greenhouse and water butt after moving into a new house. However currently they are not connected and my greenhouse doesnt have any guttering. Most forum questions relating to this seem to suggest speaking to the manufacturer to get a specific product however I have no idea who made this greenhouse. It looks pretty old and has a metal frame. I have attached some pictures of bottom edge of the roof where the guttering would be positioned. I wondered if anyone had any experience of adding a guttering to a metal greenhouse, specifically are there any clip on products to simplify this? I can drill into the metal but would rather not.

Many thanks for your help.

I think I would be tempted to jerry-rig supports using half round clips (U shaped brackets that have holes at the top and that gutters sit into) and wire suspended from the main posts. The hole in the one on the end gives the opportunity for a sturdier hanging bolt arrangement to support a downpipe which you could then wire into the wire clamps as it drops to stop it waving around in the wind. Possibly not elegant but I expect it would work well enough. You'd inevitably have a bit of a drop from the edge of the glass to the gutter but you'd catch most rain most days unless it's really windy.

The alternative to a down pipe is a length of chain hanging down at the end of the gutter into a rainwater butt - water will tend to run down the chain so you can get most of it into a barrel that way. Again, when it's windy it'll splash about a bit

raisingirl - I have decided to try an idea similar to yours and will try to attach some guttering brackets to the small screws you can see sticking out through the horizontal metal strip below the roof. They dont seem to be doing anything at the moment, perhaps the previous owner removed a gutter from here.

Regarding the wire, do you mean wrapped around the guttering and tied together through the metalwork of the greenhouse?

    Thanks again

I'd probably use slim line roof guttering, and glue what would usually be wall brackets to the metal uprights.  That's if there is enough width and metal exposed on the uprights.  Hard to see in the photos.
