Thanks MU .That has given me a lot to choose from .I have been wanting a tree that will grow to about twelve to fifteen feet. I will browse over the next few weeks and perhaps OH I’ll buy one for my birthday.
MU I quite like Larch Diana . ? I will have to forget that it’s slow growing?

I will click any thread with the word tree in it lol.
I would be wary of acer, they are temperamental swines. One second they are fine then a bit of cold wind or hot weather hits them and they go "agh! Time to drop all my leaves"
As it's going to be a statement I would go for one that puts on a show for you or does something special. Magnolia if flowers are your thing, cherry for the blossoms, or one of those grafted fruit trees that can have three different fruits in one tree.
Thanks LC . Gives me food for thought.
Rubee,
We love Acers but they are slow/expensive.
I believe the Mountain Ash / Sorbus / Rowan is perfect for 'all year interest' from blossom to leaf colour to berries. also nice shapes, right height for you....much cheaper to buy a larger specimen.
I went to 'The Horti Centre' outside wakefield and aside from being generally very good, they also carry quite a number of trees. I bought a really nice Sorbus 'joseph rock' (recommended by Chris Beardshaw). They are large specimens but incredibly low prices....they're tall, you might need help getting it into your vehicle! They also normally have ornamental cherries/Malus which you're probably starting to conclude as potential candidates. They also happen to have a simply wonderful 'Seed Room' Cafe which we occasionally travel just for that!
Actually i just remembered another place you might like if you don't know it already, on the A58 very near M62 there's Beardsworths Nurseries...field after field of trees...more options. A little more expensive. great tools selection. no cafe!
hope that helps!
Thank you up UP North . Will look at those centres online .
