New pond

Hi all,

We've just out in a new wildl pond in our garden and have just filled (had to use tap water but letting it sit for a week or two). Does anyone have any recommendations for where to get nice stones and best marginal plants, please?

Pics of your own would be great too :)

Thanks,

Justin

    Puddleplants are great https://www.puddleplants.co.uk/

I doubt if they'll be sending any plants out at the moment, as it's way too soon for them to be in active growth, but if you contact them they'll let you know when they expect to be sending them out.

Builders' merchants have stones and gravel at much better prices than garden centres or pond specialists.    Make sure you have sloping beach effect at one end to allow any creature that falls in to escape.  Even frogs can drown if they  can't get out.

I agree with Dove - no point trying to add plants till spring when the water warms up enough for them to grow well.   That gives you time to research and plan.   You need to aim to cover about 60% of the water surface to prevent algae from turning it all green.   You need some marginals too with tall stems to allow dragon and damsel flies to dry out and fly off when they emerge from their nymph phase.
