Rubarb

Just moving some rubarb to a different part if the garden and my friend said I ought to leave it out for the frost to get to it before i replant it. That's sounds crazy. Is there any truth in it? Does this help the plant in any way?

Lifting and leaving a rhubarb crown to get frosted before  taking indoors for forcing is an old technique ... however if you're simply moving it from one plot to another without intending  to force it in the traditional way, I'd replant straight away without frosting.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • Yeh I thought so. It's only little so thought it best to do that too. I didn't realise it's more so for if you intend forcing it.  I'd rather let it be for another year. Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated. .

You can only spare roots for forcing rhubarb when you have a good amount of roots as it is usual to throw spent roots away after forcing.
