Conifer tree dying from top down

image image image

Hello

We have a row of conifers out the front of our house, good sunlight and well spread out. However please see the pictures. 1 of them is dying from the top down. It isnt growing as much as the others either. They have been in for around a year and a half. In the pictures you can see the sick conifer seems to almost be splitting as its only half brown. Any ideas as to what it could be, or how to save it? I am also concerned it will spread to the rest. However this tree has been going increasingly brown over the last 6 months or so, so very slowly.

Thanks

Jen

They don’t ever get better, IMO it would be best replaced. Give plenty of water while it’s young.

That's my thought too Lyn ... best replaced ... and when replanting prepare a good sized replanting area and check for anything that may have affected the roots (rubble, pipework etc).

  • Thanks guys

Has anyone got any ideas why it went this way, just on the 1 plant? No pipes etc around when I planted it originally. I dont want it to happen to the next one.

Any signs of damage to the bark of the stems low down on the brown branches?

  • Hi, Not that I can see. I looked for bugs of various descriptions too, and cant find anything. its been a slow death to be honest, but how can half of it still be ok?
