Excellent Garden Forum
I didn't join this forum until last summer as prior to that I was unaware of its existence .
The last few months have been a real eye-opener for me .
Thinking back to all the thousands of questions posted by members new and old , and the sheer abundance of good , practical and willing advice given freely by others is quite staggering !
When taking into account the combined knowledge of forum members , theoretically any question about any plant/subject can be answered with a high degree of confidence .
I can honestly say that I am proud to be a member of this very useful and commendable team !
My thread "Another rant in the Potting Shed" certainly covered a wide range of topics (!) , but hopefully in a friendly manner .
Long may it continue !

I fully agree Paul and your "Rant" column certainly sparked off lots of discussion
This is certainly a good place to be and good company to be in
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
How I agree with your sentiments regarding this forum Paul. I joined 2 or 3 years ago, and have had no end of helpful advice - often to the most daft and obvious questions, have made some good friends and received helpful advice, it is good to have other views on what to do for the best. The seed swap is a great idea and I intend to take part in it again in the future.
Paul, your 'rant' thread would have very quickly turned into a raging nasty debate on any other forum. But not here. This is what I love about this forum and those who use it.
It's clear that people on here have lots of wisdom and knowledge.
Opinion is interesting sometimes, but information of the quality I have found on this forum is much harder to come by
“It's still magic even if you know how it's done.”
Having been on the original BBC forum before it closed down I saw trolls and anger in fact downright nastiness so was ready to leave it. Persuaded to come on this forum the difference was very obvious, the Staff are quick to remove offensive material which makes this board so different. Made many new friends and as such we do not always agree but never fall out. The Potting shed allows us all to have opinions on many subjects and anyone who was ever privileged to be in a real potting shed will know that is exactly what we do in there
The advice can come from "Olde Worldy" like me or new RHS students, it will be from experience, mine from a time Gardens fed the family and in our case the extended family too, others are from a modern age where gardens became an extension of the house. We may answer the same questions time and again though I realise the problem to the person asking the question can be a real need so answer gently even when it is about lawns for the umpteenth time that month, there are always new gardeners arriving even from abroad, it is interesting to see their problems.
Long may this forum run if we gardeners do some good in the world it may make up for the ills around us.
Frank.
Well said Frank & all above it is good to get different viewpoints & the obvious underlying experience of many posters means we get genuine advice.

Hi Paul
I signed up in april 2015,I agree its a great site and I am really pleased with the information all gardeners impart to novices whether its their first garden or allotment.I always say "we were all at the novice stage at one point" so there is no such thing as a silly question. Glad you like the site and yes you are right everyone is of a friendly disposition
Happy 2018 gardening

What excellent responses !!
I wouldn't have expected any other .
To me , this forum , with its vast wealth of knowledge resembles some kind of 'collective', a fount of endless information . All those minds combining their resources to answer others !
From new initiates to experts ; the comments , answers and discussions (not to mention the 'rants') are a source of new ideas to everyone 'on board' so to speak !!
Keep an eye on the Potting Shed ; might think of something else to start a debate
Thanks again
