Puzzle tree

  • Wow DyersEnd, that is a lovely specimen of a Monkey Puzzle tree - and seed pods are something we haven't yet had on ours yet.  How much longer do we have to wait for them to develop on our tree? We feed it once or twice a year, and water it occasionally.
  • Thank you GD :)  I'm not sure I can help as I don't know how old it was when I moved here 6 years ago but it was already making seed pods. The first spring I was here I lopped off the lower branches which were pushing up against the fence and covering up too much of my 'gardening' space then just recently I've had the next layer of branches removed by a tree surgeon because they were drooping on to the top of the fence. I've never fed or watered it.
I had a passion flower scrambling up the fence under it but had to dig it out when it tried to scramble up the tree and I'd have never been able to get it down again  :D
  • Thanks for the info DyersEnd, these trees are fairly rare over here, so comparing notes is helpful. We have had some of the lower branches lopped off too, our daughter's partner is a gardener by trade and is very helpful it that respect.  The (are they bracts or whatever) are very sharp and not to be argued with. Just attaching a couple of pictures of it.  It isn't as tall as the house yet, and comes in useful for extra Christmas decorations (the partner again) which receive a lot of attention from passers by!
  • Planted 1890’s my friend walked past this a few weeks ago and sent to me, now this one is just amazing😊
  • Wow what an amazing tree, that is so perfect! Who would think among the concrete and buildings that this tree would grow so well.  Thanks for sharing.
  • Probably looks a bit different from the inside looking out though.
They must love it a lot!
  • Wish that was my house as well as the tree, bet it’s pretty dark inside but still gorgeous tree.
