I have now placed the bath under the Monkey Puzzle Tree (Chilean Pine), as a temporary poisition. We cannot see it from our windows unfortunately, but the front garden is one of the driest areas in the garden and the birds love the large shrubs and trees to perch or to nest in, so I am sure they will find the bath in time (writing this as it is absolutely pouring with rain) - perhaps the bath will see more use in the long, hot summer that we all dream about.
At last I have a picture or two of the poppy bird bath, unfortunately it doesn't show you the offending suckers which are on the tops of the legs underneath the dish. The good thing is that I can easily move it without having to call muscle men to help me, I just hope that the dish doesn't flip off in the strong winds we get here. I am hoping that during the "dry" summer, the birds might actually use the bath.
Have to say I have a cast iron bird bath - very solid and sturdy - which my dogs drank from occasionally but which no bird ever bathed in that I saw. I did try an upturned lid of an old dustbin with a few pebbles in and they did use that occasionally but, in fact, they much preferred our pond or the streams in the paddock next door and over the road.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
It may well come to that yet Hazel . We spent quite a bit of money on a wrought iron bird feeder stand, but the birds prefer the feeders that we have hanging on branches - too much choice perhaps?
We also have a couple of ponds which the birds like because there is running water into one of them. However this bird bath will be tried and tested before we utilize it for anything else.

Some brilliant ideas here thanks everyone.

Until we start moaning about the drought!

Fingers crossed then.
