Lupins

I sowed dwarf lupins in the autumn. Despite my best efforts they have got a bit frosted and are trying to bloom. I have no idea if they can be salvaged to give good plants this summer. They're looking very spindly. Can they be rescued?image

cut the flower stalk right off, they can’t make good roots whilst trying to make flowers and seeds. They will be fine.

Keep in the cool, not indoors, but frost free, they will probably die right down and shoot up from the base in the Spring.

Personally , I would go one step further than Lyn and remove all foliage as well .

    Good advice as above .

  • Thank you both so much. I'll do as you suggest and hopefully end up with something for the border.

You will!. Don’t plant them out too early, wait till there’s no chance of frosts, the flowing year they will cope ok.

you need to take precautions with slugs, as soon as they pop up new shoots, slugs will chew them off.

  • Thanks Lyn. Will slugs always be a problem even with good size plants or do they just go for the new growth?
