    Hi Paul

I have a few varieties and I leave them alone over winter and give them a tidy up in early spring.

    P. Spectablis scrambles over various parts of my garden and that tends to die back after a frost leaving next year's buds on lower stems.
P.Garnet still thinks it's mid-summer. No flowers atm but the foliage looks fresh and green despite several frosts and 6" snow.
P.Raven has mostly died back as has White Bedder.

My 'theory' is that last year's foliage gives some insulation against harsh winter weather.
I've not lost any over the last few years, but this winter has already been far harsher than in the last 3-4 years, so keeping fingers x'ed they'll be ok.
Plenty of cuttings taken late summer in the cold frame just in case though.

Cuttings I took last spring grew into full-sized flowering plants by summer - they're very easy

The cuttings take very well and quickly if you put them in a glass of water.
