Snow damage
we have a magnolia grandiflora ( about 50-60 years old) but we have had heavy snow and a branch has torn away from the tree advice please as to what to do and will this kill the tree?

If it is only one branch I doubt it will kill the tree unless infection gets in. If there is a ragged end to the branch then I would cut back cleanly if possible. If the tear is on the trunk I would pair back with a sharp knife but don't be too drastic just take off the most jagged pieces. If you have any wound sealant it might be a help if not a good smear of Vaseline will stop fungal spores getting in/ taking hold.
Thanks I’m just worried it is a big branch and seems to have torn off leaving a two foot long tear in the bark and there is clearly wood exposed I will buy some wound sealant.
