Help Identifying This Tree
I'm trying to identify a tree at a friends house and not having any luck on google. Hoping someone can help. For reference, this is in South Florida, so that rules out most of the northern plants.
Here is a photo of the full tree really just so you can see form and shape.
Here is a close up of the leaves:
And here is the more interesting part of the tree. It seems to have these spikes on the upper branches. Out of these spikes is a small stem or very small branch. In this photo, whatever they had on them (maybe fruit?) is gone and only the bare twig of a branch is left. On the older portions of the tree, these stems have broken off and only the spike is left, and on the oldest part of the trunk (the main portion) these spikes have either broken off or worn away because there is only scars left or nothing at all. In any event, here is the photo:
Does anyone have any idea what tree this is?

as we're a UK based forum our knowledge of semi-tropical plants is pretty much limited to house plants and stuff you can grow in a greenhouse. sorry
Some sort of loquat possibly, but most have toothed leaves
or Mango.....
