Is there a type of grass tolerant for wet areas?

So in spring I did everything I could to provide a good growing matter for lawn, I dug 30 cms deep and more, I added a lot of grit etc. to ensure drainage is good or at least improved. Most of the lawn now is okay but there is an area near the house where it still is really soggy - the water is NOT sitting on top but the earth is just really wet and the grass has started dying off.

Even if a drainpipe would help, I will not go to the extent. Also you often see areas flooded with water all winter and the grass doesn't die off. So I'm thinking, there must be a type of grass that is tolerant for wetter conditions.

Does anyone know?

Why not just make that spot a bed for plants that like poor drainage?   Plenty of them to choose form to provide year round interest if well chosen and no mowing.

  • It's not practical where the wet spot is :( I already have a few nice rqaised beds with tropical plants.
