Should I prune my Cytisus and if I do will it thicken it up to give me more privacy.

I'm assuming it is the common broom? If you are not sure, post a photo of it. You should it pruned yearly to keep it more dense if you want it that way. Avoid pruning right down to old woody areas, they may not rejuvenate. Ideal time to do this is after flowering every year.
