Lilac tree pruning

I have a 20 foot lilac tree ( not shrub).  I would like to prune the height but do not want to lose the following year's flowers.  I dead head after flowering every year. How do I reduce the height without compromising the flowers?

The only way I can think of keeping flowers is to prune out certain branches , on pruning shrub lilac 1/3 of the oldest branches are removed. They flower on last year wood so chopping it all back you wuill lose the flowers for the following season.

I personally would leave it, it must be quite a site when its in full bloom, it shouldn't grow much bigger now.  I wouldn't even bother deadheading it due to its size.
