Mystery plant
Getting ready for winter in my garden I have started to lift dalhia & begonia tubers, etc. Came across this surprise "tuber" in one of my planters. I know what I had planted there so I know what it is, but was not expecting it to look like that. Can you identify it? Size about 5cm in diametre.

It looks a bit like an Allium Bulb to me.
I would say its a bit left over from the dahlia. It won’t grow again.
Sorry Edit doesn’t work, if you know what it is, do tell.
This morning I lifted the second specimen of my "mystery plant" and its tubers look radically different.
Some clues: this plant is cultivated as an edible veg, but the variety I had planted is grown for its very decorative foliage. Hope that helps!
Salsify??
When you don't even know who's in the team
S.Yorkshire/Derbyshire border
Or Jerusalem Artichoke? The thin roots look a bit like Skirret or Seakale as well.
lost potatoe?
@Lida,
You are getting close. Please note that both photos refer to the very same plant, although not the same specimen.
Crambe maritima?
Any more guesses?
