Confederate Jasmine Help

HellI All -

I’ll start by saying that I am completely new to plants and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased two 1 gallon Confederate Jasmine plants to be placed in front of a privacy fence.  The area gets full sun.  Soil is clay and drainage isn’t great; however, I made the holes large when planting and added a ton of purchased soil so it should be adequate.  A few leaves have turned red and a few have fallen off.  I guess this could just be attributed to stress of it’s new location; however, what concerns me are the spots on the underside of the leaves.   These spots are found on roughly 65-70% of the leaves.  Am I doing something wrong?  Could this be “rust”?  Please help.

BTW - location is eastern central Alabama.

Your Trachelospermum is probably suffering from poor drainage and wrong soil pH ; a good slightly acidic loam based soil would be preferable to what sounds like a fairly waterlogged clay !

My soil is not great by any means.  It‘s difficult to grow much of anything in this clay.  Especially given the drainage in my yard.

I just inspected the plant and noticed something that mlay explain the spotting on the underside of the leaves.  I planted the Jasmine with the front side (side facing the sun at shop) towards the privacy wall in hopes that it would assist in getting the plant attached to the structure since the vines tilted that way.

The discoloring only seems to impact the leaves in which the underside is facing the sun.  I would assume that the undersides are being burnt from the sun as it’s not the side intended for direct light; however, I know next to nothing regarding the subject and I’m probably far from the answer.
