Poorly Laurel

Can anyone offer suggestions as to what is wrong with my laurels pictured please? I planted them about 14 months ago and these brown edges started about 6 months ago. image

I have one that looks like that. I think the muntjac nibbles it.

I think that one has been nibbled by something rather than having a disease,

  • Thanks for your reply nutcutlet. I thought that too but the edges go crispy brown first then fall away. What is the remedy for muntjac? Best regards.

If it is deer, you need a fence high enough to stop them leaping over.  If it's rabbits, you need some mesh fence buried deep enough to stop them tunneling.

Either way I think you would do well to weed all along the base and clear the soil for about 30cms/12" either side of the trunks then water well and apply a mulch of well rotted garden compost or manure or a mix so that the roots of the plants get plenty of moisture and nutrients to help them support the plants.  Grass and other weeds will compete for nutrients and moisture to the detriment of your laurel.
