Agapnathus root cuttings?
in Plants
I've just potted up some Agapanthus to grow on for next year and there is quite a bit of fleshy root left in the bag. Would this shoot if I potted it up like root cuttings?
I can find plenty of info on division and seed growing but no mention of propagation from roots.

It might, the deciduous type ones I've bought all look like root divisions with minimal top growth when they've turned up in the post. And anyway, what's to lose by trying? Put it in a pot of gritty compost, protect it over winter and then put it somewhere sheltered in the spring and wait and see.

They could root but division in spring is the normal propagation for agapanthus decidous or evergreen once the root ball is sufficiently grown. They do not take long to grow in to big clumps and then devision will create quite a few new plants
By all means have a try but in my humble experience Agapanthus resent any kind of root disturbance. They can grow as per Greenfingers Steve, but may take two or three years to flower again. Your best bet is to get an old plant and replant without upsetting it ! Good luck. Ian
You can cut off side shoots of Agapanthus easily in the spring and they will grow but it will take time to get them really florishing.
