    We live and learn.

I'd never heard of an oscillating hoe.image

    Devon.
  • The oscillating hoe is always at the right angle whether pushing or pulling as it flips forward and back about 20 degrees. It really makes the job easy compared to any push pull hoe. Those red ones I have linked to are built really well; I am a professional gardener and use mine most days and I have not had to replace (or sharpen) it since I bought it around 6 years ago.

I've got one with a heart shaped head, sharp on all edges, which I find very effective.  Unfortunately no name on it so I can't provide a link.  There is a similar tool at our local garden centre but the head is much lighter, and the handle far too short for my use.

Thanks,  Glasgowdan.  I'm very tempted!  The one you point at looks a nice version.  I assume it is carbon steel?  Did you consider a stainless steel one?

    Kind regards

  • No I just bought that red one. It's a really strong bit of gear. I heave it through rocky beds all the time.

  • Thank you all. Like herding cats, everyone has different and valid opinions and all valuable! image

  • I may be being a bit thick here, which one in the link should I be looking at?

  • Very useful link Dan even if I don't get an oscillating Hoe I have been looking for ash handles for ages, need one for my dads old rakeimage

    This one Steve.

TeeHee...herding cats. I thought I was the only person who said that!

Anyone remember the conversation on Coronation Street when Graham told Norris to go to B&Q and buy a crack hoe to remove the weeds from his paving?
