Just wandering around the garden and spotted this in several places on this rose bush. This is a new on thus year and the only one in the garden affected. Help!!!!
Aphids ... the cold weather will soon kill them but in the meantime brush them off between your finger and thumb (use rubber gloves if you're squeamish) or use a jet of water from a hosepipe to wash them off.
Over the winter hang some birdfeeders near your roses so the bluetits get used to feeding there and next year when the aphids reappear the bluetits will harvest them for you to feed their youngsters.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
