Identity of shrub

Hello all

Does anyone know what this shrub is?

It has green leaves with yellow and red leaves at the end of the branches.

Many thanks

    It could be Abelia Grandiflora.

I don't think abelia. The foliage looks too dense.

    I might well be wrong.

    Rhaphiolepis ????

  • Please can you add good close up pics gardenerpat.

Possibly a leaf against a ruler.

Original pic appears to have small  leaves opposite on a twig.

Rhaphiolepis are  fairly large and alternate...

    Quote wiki...

"The leaves are alternate, leathery, glossy dark green, simple, 3–9 cm (1.2–3.5 in) long, with an entire or serrated margin."

  • My first thought was a shrub called Ruscus ( butchers broom ) but photo not clear enough to see the leaf clearly.

Is the berry at the bottom right hand corner part of the same shrub ?

ruscus berries are in the middle of the bits that look like leaves

Without an in focus photo/more info I can't do anything with that

Looked at this shrub again and believe it is the Chilean Guava, Ugni Molinae. This particular one with the pale new growth could be 'Butter Ball'. Never seen this grown before, but it is quite hardy and the berries are edible.

  • Borderline..that looks a good suggestion.

We used to grow this lovely shrub.

Gardenerpat please check the fruits...they are very distinctive . image
