Olive Tree
Hi all -
I have a non-bearing olive tree and recently I noticed that the new growth leaves are burning/dying (see picture below). See picture attached. A little bit about the tree to try and help paint a picture:
- The tree is about 4 feet high and was planted in the ground last year.
- It is in a south facing location but is in the shade of a huge eucalyptus tree.
- I water with plain water about once per week
- I live in San Francisco so the weather is temperate most of the year, but there are tons of olive trees that are the same type in the neighborhood that are 15-20 feet high so I dont think it is climate.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks
Brett

It is difficult to advise on your garden problems because our climate is so different to yours. Our climate is damp and cooler. However I would suggest that you take a look at the other olive trees growing in your area SF - if they also have leaves turning brown then it would suggest that either they have the same problem or that it is just something that happens at this time of year.
We have an olive tree growing in a pot in our garden, and it is touch and go as to whether it will survive from year to year and we have never had an edible olive from the tree. I prune the tree lightly each year and I am trying to encourage it into a round ball of tree - it is just 4 or 5 feet tall. I have to say that your leaves look a lot bigger and healthier than our tree.
I would suggest that you quiz someone in your area who has olive trees growing in their garden.
I would be interested to know what other forum users and your neighbours suggest as the cause SF.
