Sweet pea seedlings
I sowed sweet peas 3 weeks ago, I left them in the greenhouse under cover.
They were growing well but over the last few days most of the seedlings have been broken off and I found them on top of the compost, none have been eaten.
Anyone have any idea why this would happen?
Thanks

Bet you the seed bit is missing!
It's what mice do - they got mine last spring when they were quite well grown, the little blighters
They look as though they have been cut off at soil level, it's a clean cut with no sign of gnawing.
Slugs and snails would have been my guess too, unless the seeds themselves have gone - then it's mice.
Molluscs love the soft new growth
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thanks for your replies, I would have expected slugs or snails to have eaten the seedlings but they are left on top of the compost ?
There is no slime trail so maybe mice ?
I will try again and this time cover with glass and see what happens.
Mice are constantly at my sweetpeas - its the reason I don’t autumn sow
its bad enough doing battle with the little blighters in March and April, never mind having to fight them all winter too
