What Clematis is this?
in Plants
Good Evening
I hope to attach a photo of a Clematis which is about to bloom.
I have had it for about 3 years, it starts to grow, then looses all its foliage by middle of summer.

Might I suggest it's losing its foliage because it's not getting enough water? That normally does it.
My C. cirrhosa used to lose all its leaves in summer, then get some back and flower in winter. That was too dry and eventually failed to recover

I can't see the flower buds properly but it could be Clematis Armandii based on the leaf arrangement. If so, they are normally evergreen but because they are quite fast growing, it can look quite sparse at times, especially further down the plant.
Google to see if you recognise the flowers. Your Clematis probably needs a tidy up and prune on some stems to encourage new shoots further down. Leaves dropping in the summer time on evergreens is normal, but could be a sign it's stressed and not getting enough water. Make sure the base areas are shaded and if not, plough in a layer of mulch to keep that area moist and cool.
I think it is possibly clematis napaulensis, this tends to lose all its foliage in Summer.
Thanks Richard, it is .
looking forward to seeing the flowers.
