Help with Garden Box...Fungus?

imageimageimage

I used untreated wood to build a garden box for my little girl 2 years ago and it's held up well...until this past fall when I've noticed this growth of white around the edges of the box.  I recently harvested a bunch of sweet potatos but not sure if they're safe.  How do I treat this???

Any input is much appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

The wood is decaying and the white stuff is fungus feeding on the decaying organic matter. It will break it down and make it accessible to other plants as nutrition.

Eventually you will need to replace your garden box, but in the meantime there is no need to worry, the vegetables you grow there will be perfectly fine. I hope you and your daughter continue to enjoy your gardening image
