Lawn damage

I wonder if anyone can help with a problem that my friend has with holes/scratches in her lawn. She thinks that it's foxes but never sees one around. The holes can be anything from 2 - 6" long, 4 - 7" deep with lots of grass scratched away. Sometimes there is a long line of this damage but sometimes just randomly around the lawn. If it could be foxes, does anyone have ideas of how to stop them?

    Possibly badgers

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I would suggest badgers too, i saw on a tv programme recently that there is a fat larvae/worm thing that can live just under the surface of grass and badgers push the grass up with their noses to eat them, apparently a nightmare to get rid of the worm things ?

  • Thank you so much for the advice which I will pass on to my friend. It certainly sounds as though it could be badgers rather than foxes.

  • Does it look anything like this,

This is badger damage on a good day!!!

I have got chaffer grubs under the lawn and the badgers come in at night and dig the lawn up to get to them.

you can use nematodes on the lawn but I think it’s getting a bit late now.

I watered nematodes onto the lawn in early September but I don’t think the badger as got the message yet.
