Tea Growing

in Plants
Hi All
I am after some advice on growing tea Camellia sinensis. Does anyone on the forum have the expertise/experience and if so could they drop me a line?
Many thanks

I treat mine as a half hardy camellia,
so no sun first thing in the morning, but as much sun it can have in the afternoon, acid soil and water and ericaceous feed during the summer.
I protect in a greenhouse overwinter and it goes outside early April to the middle of October.
There is some growing in the Japaneses garden at Capel manor Enfield N London. It is in a very sheltered spot in partial shade. They are in flower at the moment. Acid soil in the ground all year, not picked for tea though presumably it could be.
You might also like to contact the Tregothnan Estate in Cornwall where they grow this Camellia for Tea. The Tea they produce is rather expensive but quite superb actually, but for that price you'd want it to be.
I'm sure they would be pleased to advise you further.

I have been wanting to try it, but couldn’t see plants at a reasonable price (I haven’t looked recently). There are several small commercial growers in Scotland, I see one of them is offering glamping! That sounds like a lovely idea.
Hi Guys
Thanks for the suggestions. I will check out Cornwall in the first instance to see how I get on there.
