Its not so much what date you can sow but what your local conditions are like. The weather forecasters are threatening frost by early next week but not everywhere. Once we get frost your seed will not germinate until spring so you will be looking at a bare muddy patch all winter. In fact even established grass stops growing at around 5-6 C. If you live in a mild sheltered area you might get away with it but I would not be too hopeful. I had a lawn relaid in early October once but had to resort to turf.
i wouldn't seed now as the weather in now on the change and a cold frost could kill off new grass seed. As Iain as stated, you would be taking a chance. Leave untill after March next year and once any frost has passed. Gass seeds germinate quite quickly once the soil warms up.
