Plant ID help

Hi there please could anyone identify this for me. It is a tree about 10 ft.

    I would say that's a Pyracantha ... it's a very good year for the berries image


    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.





  • Thanks. Yes its covered in berries at the minute. Very nice. 

    Do you think it would survive if pruned right back down. its very tall with mostly top growth and nothing on the bototm

  • Yes pyracantha can take heavy pruning.  The berries are loved by birds so I would leave until they have had their fill.  As they flower on 2 year old growth you will also loose next years flowers.  I have cut one down to ground level in the past and it still came back with a vengeance. They are tough plants!
