I have cotoneaster in my yard. It seems to grow randomly. I would like to encourage horizontal growth to resembling Japanese pines Not bonsai but as pines are shaped in Japan. Layering

You need to grow this one, if you have an upright one, no amount of pruning will make it grow flat.
