Does anyone know what this is?

Hi there,

I've recently moved house and in the garden is a tree with fruit that look similar to large apples, but they have a slightly different shape, they have a bland taste and a lot of the fruit were furry'ish.

Does anyone know what they are?

Just to elaborate on Edds 'detailed' answer image ; Chaenomeles japonica cultivar .

  • Many thanks Edd and Paul B3. I really appreciate the speedy responses.

  • Just to elaborate a little more on the guy's succinct responses image  Quince is really not for eating

as a raw fruit. Its rock hard and not tasty. However it is priceless for making jams, jellies and fruit cheeses. You are lucky to inherit a thriving tree.

The picture looks like the proper culinary quince Cydonia oblonga (lucky you!!!) not Chaenomeles japonica.

  • QUINCE JELLY !  YOU CAN EAT THEM THEN !

  • Course you can, but only really in preserves. Ask Monty - he's a massive fan !

  • Hi all thanks for your responses. All I have to do now is find some decent recipes. ?
