Tree Identification
I moved into my house last year and I have a small tree in my garden. I have no idea what it is - although I think it could be a male holly tree. The bark is very rough and has a heavy texture, the leaves are very prickly and it is an evergreen. It doesn't bear any berries. I have taken a few photos, I've also noticed it's got some fungi growing on it too.
Anyone able to help me?

It's a Mahonia japonica ... happy in shady spots ... beautifully scented yellow flowers in the winter followed by black berries loved by the birds.
I'd probably cut out the branches with the fungi.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Thank you so much for this. A family friend had one in their garden but there's is much smaller, but also didn't know what it was... I'll pass this on to them. Thanks for your help. I'll get those branches removed too.
