Moss everywhere

Hi,

Suddenly my rear garden is covered by moss. Had some issues earlier in the year and I killed and raked it all out.

Assume because the time of year I need to leave it now and wait until the spring to sort?

Appreciate there is an underlying issue there, I'm assuming that it's too wet and shady in places and that's caused it to start. I'll get the fork out.

Thanks for reading.

  • Moss is endemic problem And I recently decided to create some new flower beds on some of the worst patches. What happened was that after I removed the top turf I set about trying to dig over the soil... OH boy... ! What is usually a sandy loam soil was compacted so hard that the spade literally bounced off!  I had to use a sharp fork and even a pick to loosen it enough. I would suggest yours might have the same issue. Wet means poor drainage and shaded means no sun to dry it out... I have cut down three mature trees since then to eliminate the shade and the difference is amazing. Stick a fork in it and see if you can loosen the soil. if not you can really only eliminate it by turning it all over and reseeding once you have got it a lot drier.
