Plant ID - Pine

DYLDYL Posts: 67

I saw the pine below in my local GC and really liked it but I wanted to find out a little more about growing conditions and how big it may get. At the moment it stands around 6ft high.

My confusion lies in the label on the plant, because when I Googled it, this shows as a dwarf pine and all photos show a much smaller shrub. Even the label says it grows to 1m x 1m.

It is the tree centre of picture.

Do you think the label could be wrong?

I think it's too tall and not bushy enough for mugo.

Each of those branchlets is a years growth and that doesn't sound like a dwarf mountain pine growth rate. This will be a large tree, very quickly.

    I agree with Nut [ I usually do ]

It does not have the right shape for Pinus mugo, whose many cultivars have a lovely shape.

How can you lie there and think of England

I'd agree with nut too. That's gonna be a monster image

I think the person who planted one at the back of my garden was also sold one that was allegedly a mugo...it's currently around twenty feet and will have to come out. Shame - as the birds enjoy it and the squirrels eat the cones, but it's roots are cracking the pavement and isn't really happy as it doesn't have the room it needs.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    Thanks.

It's a beautiful tree but I don't have the space for a huge pine so I will give this one a miss.
