Chives...

Kathy43Kathy43 Posts: 116

Last year, I left a pot of chives on the patio, over winter. They came up in spring, and the flowers were gorgeous.

Do you think they will survive in the border, over winter?

I split them up in spring, as they multiplied, and put them in the garden, as the flowers attracted the bees more than any other flowers!

Yes, they'll survive .. mine do every year ... as you say, split them in the spring and they'll increase image

Ours have been in the garden for years as well,  every year, at the end of the season they get rust, I just cut them right back to the ground and they come up perfect again

Mine are the same - they grow in quite dense shade too, and damp soil, so they're very useful for awkward areas.

I have some under a conifer, as well as in borders, but it doesn't dry out there, so they're fine. image

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
