MME. ALFRED CARRIÈRE - how to?

TashaBTashaB Posts: 6

Hello, I wondered whether anyone can help me?

I have just taken delivery of my DA Mme Alfred Carriere Rose in potted form.  I would like to grow this up the front of my SE facing house.  I have read all the instructions on how to train this Rose, so I feel quite confident about that, but what I can't find is any information on how to actually plant it.

I am a little nervous, because I want to get this right!  My questions are:

Can I plant it now?

How far away from the wall should I plant it? And do I angle it?

and finally, do I plant the knuckle bit at the bottom of the rose above or below the soil?

Thanking you in advance for any help you can offer ????

Thank you pansyface - I don't know how I missed that tutorial!  Does it make any difference that mine is a potted rose, rather than a bare foot do you know?

    Hi TashaB,

Be aware that that rose tree can grow quite huge! My specimen flowers at unpredictable times of the year. Lovely perfume.

I know it's going to be a job to keep on top of it all.  But I can't wait for the flowers, and the scent! ? How long after you planted your rose did it flower just out of interest?

Mme Alfred Carriere produces most of its flowers on wood formed in the previous year so next summer's growth will give you blooms in 2019.
