Thanks for your reply @amancalledgeorge. Lovely pic. I did actually look up Hart's Cannas, who are major canna suppliers, and they do them, so if my local nursery doesn't, I can always get one online from them. I oculd do with something to sit in front of the peony when it's finished as the foliage always looks hellish. I like the cannas with dark foliage so I might peruse their site a bit as they have the cannovas in similar colours as the bigger cannas.

I know - on the many wet days recently, I've been perusing [that's my story and i'm sticking to it] the online clematis nurseries. I don't intend buying anything of course.... Aye right

Morning Fairygirl, I went out on Monday to do the food shopping and came back with five plants, also with the food I might add. I have now potted up till next year and put them in a shelter place. I bought them in Aldi but to my surprise they are a good size and healthy. I want them to try to hide a fence which my neighbour said he doesn't want painted, there's nothing wrong with the fence it's just that it's gone a sort of silvery colour.
Hi @NannaBoo - it could have been worse - you could have come back without the food I'm assuming the neighbour owns the fence? If he doesn't , he has no right to tell you not to paint it. If you dont want the grief though, you could always construct a little 'fence' of your own in front of it. Couple of posts and some trellis or battens, just a few feet wide, painted whatever colour you fancy. You can still have your plants in front of that too - it would be a really smart, eyecatching feature

Fairygirl, I really wanted to paint it black the same as the rest of the fencing as the plants really look good against it.As I'm not aloud to paint it I'll grow plants in front of it to hide it so it can't be seen at all. I already have three Hydrangeas that I took cutting of a couple of years ago.
That's a shame you can't paint it though - would make life easier. I've just been revamping some of my trellis on my fence. It's also black - the plants do look very good against it, although it's harder with dark flowered plants. Whites and strong colours look really good though. I'm currently moving my clem. Etoile Violette so that it's against a different section for the flowes to stand out better.

I agree with you Fairygirl the plants do look good against the black. As I can't paint it it'll have to be the next best thing plants all along the fence. It's funny though as she has painted her side a very dark brown but doesn't want it painted on my side. I've just put bricks up on my side to keep the soil off the fence as I've raised the bed up a bit and she didn't put any gravel boards down the fence is right down to the soil. Ho well there nowt so queer as folk.
