Storm Ophelia

Hope everyone is safe during the upcoming storm.....time to baton down the hatches.  It's been a busy day putting away garden furniture and trying to protect lots of little plants in pots.  Limerick is one of the counties on Red Alert.....Ophelia is expected to hit us here approx. 9 am tomorrow.

Hope you and your garden stay safe, Mary. Good luck!

    Good luck Mary image

I remember the Storm of '87 ... our area was bang in the middle of it ... lots of damagem roads blockedt  for several days and no power or phone for nearly two weeks ... lost a few shrubs but our home and family were ok, and that was the important thing.

Just a  yellow warning for us here in Devon . Gusts of 50mph aren't uncommon here so we should be ok.

The 87 storm saw us( In Hampshire) without power for 4 hours off a week. 2am Friday until 10 pm Thursday.

    Devon.

The hillside heading into Selbourne in Hants lost over 90% of the trees and they just left it all alone. It looked a lot better as the years went on than the areas which were "tidied up".

    Devon.

There once was a storm called Ophelia

    Which  totally stripped my abelia

Of leaves and of flowers in my bucolic bowers

And scattered them o'er the phacelia.

I've started another thread to warn people again who don't know the storm is coming so they can fetch all their valuable pots in and such, but all the very best of luck anyway to everyone who is waiting for the winds to arrive.

The rhymes being put up here should either be published or banned - not sure which! image

I'll just add a bit of the tree's perspective:

    "...From the black chasm

    Where shrieks and creaks rhyme

    And cutting twigs encase

Tight, trapped in the many ringed

    Trunk of time

    To bend and squeak until

    Ripped from this embrace..."

PF wins the prize for the best Limerick lol.  All good here so far. ....windy but no worse than normal really.   Hopefully we'll escape the worst. ......trees down and power outages in more southerly parts of the country.

Philippa. .....have you missed your calling??  Lol.

Relieved to report that both myself and neighbours came through unscathed. ....sadly approx. 6 trees on the green were badly damaged. .....but it could have been a lot worse.

Hope everyone over in the UK and Scotland and wherever else Ophelia is heading towards. ....stay indoors and remain safe.
