In the sticks near Peterborough
hi many thanks for replies
..it has no flowers just looks like this, it has seeds making popping noises around this time of year that pop off it, it just goes bigger every year not sure whether to cut down or leave but i will look up euphorbia for some info...
thanks again
Presumably as it's a euphorbia, jacqueline would need to take care regarding the sap when pruning?

oh thank you both for that, i will take care when pruning

If it has seeds, it must have had flowers. Perhaps they were insignificant and you missed them.
Flowers look like this http://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/euphorbia-mellifera/classid.78200/
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
yes it does/did have flowers now i know what they look like i didn't pay much attention to it, to tell the truth after reading about this plant i feel slighty uneasy about it i do have pets and don't really like the thought of having something so poisonous in the garden this may sound silly to some its just how i feel
I don't know what sort of pets you have, but if they've never shown an interest in it before by chewing it or eating the seeds, I wouldn't worry. However, if it does bother you take it out ( with care re: the sap, wear long sleeved clothing & gloves & don't rub your eyes !! ). I always think that if you take an old plant out, think of the planting opportunities you make !
i have dogs, one sits right under it,also i like to get involved with my plants when planting and pruning but i don't want to go near this bush now, it has taken the beauty out of it for me, may sound a little bit dramatic but i think it has to go... as you say the planting opportunities, i will plant something i enjoy.
