Mulberry Bush - Charlotte Russe

Hello

I received my dwarf mulberry bush last week.

It's small and starting to develop leaves. I was thinking of leaving it in my porch, north facing and cool, this autumn and winter and then acclimatising it to spend the rest of its life outdoors. Seems a bit harsh putting it straight out now.

Does this sound like the best thing to do?

Thanks for reading.

Yeah, I'd pot it on and give it some shelter. It can probably stay outside, but protect the roots (wrap the pot in bubble wrap) if it gets really cold.

What do you make of the taste? I'm not impressed. A ripe mulberry is a thing of beauty and this is not.
  • We  were given a plant from a friend who was moving into a small house and garden. It was in the pot and we felt that it should be planted out asap. This was October 2018. It started to grow through out Oct/Nov/Dec and then died.
The nursery replaced it and we planted it out in a different position. Has grown into quite a bushy plant but this year only 4 mulberries and before we could taste them...yes the blackbirds got them.
The orginal plant then started to regrow from the bottom but with late frosts this year it has again died!

Mine is 2/3 old in a big pot. It's doing well with a fair amount of fruits on it. It's been outdoors all the time but spends winter sheltered by my pot collection against a wall.  Seems like Bristol isn't too cold for it.
Sadly the berries aren't that impressive.
