Eucalyptus Tree in trouble

I would very grateful for any advice on what to do with our Eucalyptus tree that is being attacked by something That is eating into the trunk.
its such a beautiful tree I would be devastated to lose it :-/

Is this the main trunk? It's very likely you have some fungal attack. Whether it is though a wound or from the roots which attacks the inside of the trunk. Depending on areas, the only way is to cut off the area to avoid it spreading. If that is the main trunk, it is possible, it's dying already.

I'm sorry it is on the main area. You haven't photographed your whole tree. Perhaps it may give other forum members a chance to see if it's something that can be rectified, especially if it could be pruned off. I don't know where you are based and what sort of weather you have, but it's possible that the tree came under attack because the surrounds were less than ideal.
