Bug

I have a Koreana fir tree in the lawn, its just a baby one and yesterday I was passing it to check the Canna when I was horrfied to see ‘something’ feeding on my Koreana Fir.

I have never seen the like before though at my last addres a similar stripping of leaves on an older Koreana Fir.

Hopefully someone knows what it is.

Possibly a Lesser Yellow Underwing caterpillar image  ... very late in the season to be around.  I'd have thought he'd be happier on an elderberry bush than a fir tree.  If you're worried about him damaging your tree pop  him on an elder tree.

Yes - not terribly big Kate. About an inch, or slightly more,  in each direction  image

Just looked at that pic you posted Kate - and I don't think it's the yellow underwing caterpillar. I was just following on from Dove's post.

Looks like one of the hawkmoths to me  image

There are a few ID sights for caterpillars which might be helpful.

I've actually just emailed one called Wildlife Insight to see if they can ID a caterpillar I photographed today.
