Hi can anyone please tell me what is destroying my Buxus? I’ve not long bought it and already it is not happy! I thought maybe it looked like some of the leaves have been eaten? But I’ve not found any caterpillars or even any webbing to indicate caterpillars!
Any suggestions will be most welcome! Thanks, Lauren

    Hello Lauren  :)
I don't think it's box tree caterpillar as there doesn't seem to be any sign of webbing etc. I also don't think it's box blight, although l stand to be corrected.
There have been several posts on the forum recently with people having similar problems, l think possibly due to the plants being stressed by the extremes of weather.
Is it in a pot, or in the ground?  Did you buy it from a garden centre or online?

    Hi Annie,
I bought it from a garden centre but I left it in the original plastic pot and compost for a couple of weeks then saw signs of browning so thought it needs repotting but that didn’t help. On closer inspection I have seen some brown powdery stuff on top of some green leaves and kind of grey ish powder under the leaves. Could this be box blight? Thanks, Lauren

@AnniD sorry I’m new to this so don’t think I correctly tagged you either. My response is above.

@loz_e91, that could be powdery mildew possibly. At the risk of stating the obvious, it's clearly a plant under stress.
Have a look at this, it may be of some help

  • Ours was exactly like this and the experts at Wisley identified it as box blight. Unfortunately we had to gradually get rid of it.
