We have a new volunteer at the park, though we don't expect much work from him. The tree was a big alder, which died earlier in the year. We wanted to keep it, but the council's tree people said it wasn't safe. We persuaded them to leave a tall stump, and called in our friend Mark Earp and his chainsaw. I think I see another "guess the name" competition on the horizon.
The park is a lovely green space for everyone to enjoy and the Friends do a good job looking after it - however, it's a pity they are proposing to ruin the peaceful haven it is for nocturnal wildlife by installing pir solar lights and encourage people to use the park during darkness.
